MES HISTOIRES PARISIENNES:

I have returned to my blog 2 years later,
because there are too many stories to share...

"
If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man,
then wherever you go for the rest of your life,
it stays with you, for Paris is a movable feast

-Hemingway

Background

Who: Moi, Melinda Kay.

What: Living in Paris and studying at Sciences Po (The French Institute for Political Science)

When: January 2011 – December 2011 (as far as I know … maybe more, maybe less.  Goal = be home for Christmas)

Where: PARIS

Why: Why not?  And my program (the TransAtlantic Masters Program) has multiple European consortiums to choose from to do coursework at for the 2nd and 3rd semester – it’s even possible to get my M.A. degree from one of these universities as opposed to UNC.

How: Saving money through random jobs, homelessness, and being thrifty.  Getting on a plane with 40lbs. more than the allotted amount via one “little man” (Harry = 25+ pounds), a guitar stuffed with the heaviest clothes I could find, and physically wearing on my person an extra 10+ pounds of clothing.

paris map

Just wanted to put a map up, because I’m going to refer to the arrondissements a few times in my blog.

I’m staying right now with a family in Malakoff – the very bottom of the map – which is only 25 minutes by metro to my university which is near the 6eme.

I’m looking for an apartment within a 3k radius of  my school, but of course the closer you get to the center, the more expensive.

I think that’s enough of an intro to my life in Paris.

A la prochaine!
